Discover tomorrow’s tech at the IFA 2012 show

The next generation of gadgets revealed at Europe’s premier electronics event.

Kicking off on 29 August in Berlin is IFA 2012, Europe’s largest consumer electronics show. All the big names in technology will be there showing off their latest gadgets and letting people try them out.

We’ll be keeping you up to date with all the headline news, but here’s a taster of what to expect from IFA 2012:

We're expecting to see the Microsoft Surface on show.

Windows 8 everywhere

With Microsoft’s Windows 8 launch thundering ever closer (26 October – circle it in your diaries), new devices powered by the operating system will be all over the show.

We’re expecting touch-enabled laptops from Samsung, Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Dell and more. A number of hybrids that are tablets with detachable keyboard, like the Microsoft Surface, should be on show too.

Samsung Galaxy Camera

Nikon already has its Android-powered S800c on the market but we’re expecting Samsung to follow suit with a Galaxy Camera. This will be a smart camera that provides advanced online connectivity using the Android OS.

Sony Mobile tablets

So far Sony has released a couple of tablets but we’re expecting Sony Mobile to launch its own Sony Xperia branded tablet and this should be among the first thing announced at this year’s show.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The Galaxy Note 2 is a super-sized phone with a 5.5- inch display and 1.4GHz quad-core processor, meaning it can happily straddle the phone and tablet worlds. Its USP is the stylus that enables you to write on the screen, for everything from note reminders to getting creative with sketches. Check out what T3 think the Note 2 will feature:

Bigger, better TVs

A whopping 84-inches, with 8.3 million pixels – that's 4x the resolution of a standard 1080p TV.

LG will be showing off its huge, cutting-edge 84-inch, 4k resolution TV set for the first time in Europe. The 4k technology is set to be the next standard for high resolution TV but as there’s nothing to watch yet you could see this as something of a luxury.

Sharp is also expected to introduce a huge 4K, 90-inch model, which builds on its successive releases of 60-, 70- and 80-inch models.

Toshiba instead of getting bigger is getting smarter. It’s going to demonstrate the ZL2 glasses-free 3D TV, supporting up to eight separate viewers and a 4K resolution.

And the rest

The IFA show is absolutely huge and we’re expecting releases to cover everything from Intel Ultrabooks to hand blenders, vacuum cleaners and shavers. So check back for full details as they’re released.
