Freeview goes HD

Get more out of your HDTV with better quality Freeview and free HD channels

HD ready TVs are all about a superior film and TV experience – sharper images, stunning colour and cinema-style surround sound. But if you’re receiving your TV programmes with the original Freeview, or even by standard terrestrial broadcasts, you’re missing out.

Freeview HD lets you enjoy all the advantages of your HD-ready TV and works with existing Freeview channels.

It currently provides access to BBC HD, ITV HD and Channel 4 HD/S4C HD, and the introduction of a fourth HD channel is planned to take place by the end of 2010.

Freeview HD is currently being rolled out across the UK. If you live in a region where it has been introduced and you already own an HD-ready TV, then receiving HD programmes could be as easy as buying a Freeview HD box.

The ABC to Freeview HD

A. Ask about reception Check for the availability of Freeview HD at your address. It’s quick and easy to find out if you can receive HD – just go to www.freeview.co.uk/availability and enter your postcode to see which, if any, Freeview HD channels are available to you.

B. Be HD ready Examine the front of your TV, its manual or box and look for the ’HD ready’ logo. If it displays this then you know that your TV is capable of displaying an HD image. It is also likely to have an HDMI port, to connect to an HD player such as a Blu-ray player.

C. Choose a product If you don’t currently own an HD-ready TV, then sets with built-in Freeview HD are already available. If you already own an HD-ready TV, even with standard Freeview, you can choose to purchase a Freeview HD set-top box or an enhanced Freeview+ HD recorder.
