Google Play to scorch past 20 billion downloads this summer

With 15 billion downloads done and dusted, Google Play is thundering towards the 20-digital tonne mark.

Google certainly isn’t playing at this app business

The figures are astounding with TechCrunch reporting that Google Play has served more than 15 billion downloads to Android users since springing into existence. With 1 billion downloads a month this means Google Play is set to pass 20 billion by August 2012.

Impressive, but Apple with its age advantage ticked off the 25 billion mark back in March 2012 and is dolling out a similar 1 billion apps per month.

Downloads for the Android ecosystem are actually higher than the Google Play figures, as the Android systems permits third-party app stores, such as the Amazon one to provide apps, but aren’t counted.

Either way, the figures are becoming so vast, as to be almost meaningless, and we’re also waiting for Angry Birds to hit the 1 billion download mark itself…
