Microsoft HomeOS looks forward to a digital home

Fancy living in a Smart House where everything is controlled digitally? Microsoft HomeOS could be the first step…

We won't want to be around when our eHome crashes.

Microsoft HomeOS is a system that not only enables you to control all the PCs and peripherals in your house but extends to environmental controls, lighting, security and domestic appliances.

HomeOS is currently being tested in 12 real homes in the US, and students have been building control apps and adding additional appliance support as they go.

This all adds to the HomeStore – a central point that people can use to assess devices that can be controlled with HomeOS. It will also make recommendations on how the home can be improved with additional automation devices.

Microsoft HomeOS isn’t currently a “real” product, but if the evaluation is successful we could see this technology integrated into future Microsoft products. Click here for full details from Microsoft Research.
