Protect your gadgets on holiday
Make sure you secure and insure your possessions while away.
You may remember to pack sun cream protection for yourself but what about packing some protection for your gadgets?
Stop a holiday becoming a hell-a-day.
These days it’s easy to travel with hundreds of pounds worth of electronic gadgets. It’s no surprise as phones, cameras, tablets, music players and laptops are smaller, lighter and more convenient than ever to take with you.
This unfortunately also means they’re easy to snatch, drop and leave behind too.
Here are our top tips for protecting everything about your gadgets while home and away.
On the case
Our first suggestion is to get protective cases for all of your gadgets. Almost every gadget has a range of practical and often glam-looking cases that will keep your electronics safe during transit and if you happen to drop one, help them bounce safely.
On a practical level if you’re taking a laptop, tablet, phone or even a camera it’s a very good idea to take a little time and make sure your digital files are protected.
Imagine if someone got their hands on your personal photos, phonebook or documents? All phones, tablets and laptops enable you to add a pin, password or another type of lock to them. We’d strongly suggest you use it to stop casual access.
Another area of security we’d suggest you consider, even for cameras, is backing up your devices. Many phones and tablets automatically back up data to the “cloud” but that’s not to say everything is stored. So check and save any important files off to your home computer for all your devices.
As a matter of course you’ll be taking out travel insurance for your holiday to cover delays, cancellations, document loss and medical expenses, but check the value of covered personal belongings and valuable items.
For example, Tesco Finest Cover provides personal belongings cover up to £2,000 with an additional Valuable single-item limit of £500, not including any excess payment. This should be enough to cover most items you take with you.
