Great ways to save energy and money
Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign, inspiring a new wave of action to create a sustainable future – and there are plenty of ways that you can get involved.
Visit climateweek.com to find out about all of the activities taking place and how you can take part. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Old for new – Replace old products with more energy efficient ones. For example, Energy Saving Trust Recommended kettles use 20% less energy. Products with the Energy Saving Trust Recommended label will help you to find the products that will save you the most energy in your home.
- Switch – Swap your light bulbs for energy saving ones. It’s an easy way to get on the road to making your home more energy efficient and saving you money.
- Your windows – Install energy efficient glazing in your home. Replacing all single-glazed windows with B-rated double glazing could save you around £165 per year on your energy bills.
-
Wonder walls – Around a third of heat loss goes through the walls of your home. Insulating your cavity walls will keep you warmer and could save you about £135 a year on fuel bills.
- Put a lid on it – Around half of your heat is wasted through your walls and loft? Choose loft and cavity wall insulation with Tesco Home Efficiency and you’ll feel the benefits straight away – saving up to £310 on your heating bills^ every year.
- Snuggle up – Invest in a high-tog duvet to keep you cosy or an electric blanket, which will warm up your bed rather than the room. This way you can avoid needlessly heating the house while you’re asleep.
- Be selective – If you can, turn the radiators off in rooms you aren’t using. If you really need an instant bit of heat, a quick blast from a heater might do the trick.
