Streaming music and radio coming to Tesco

Expect streaming audio services from Tesco soon...

Tesco buys WE7 the music streaming service co-founded by Peter Gabriel

If you’re a fan of the on-demand, award-winning, video-streaming service Blinkbox then you’ll be pleased to hear that Tesco has just bought a controlling share of music streaming site We7 and its catalogue of over 11 million audio tracks.

This will mean Tesco can start offering the same on-demand services as it does with Blinkbox but for a huge music catalogue rather than movies and TV.

Speaking about the buyout, Steve Purdham, CEO of We7 said: “Tesco is the perfect partner to bring We7′s music services to a wider audience.”

While Tesco’s digital director Mark George explained, “Tesco is already one of the UK’s largest retailers of CDs; this move will help us offer a greater choice for the growing number of customers who want to access music instantly on any device.”
