Toshiba RL953B Full HD Smart TV review

You’ve still got a couple of weeks before there’s so much sport on the TV you’ll need a second set to watch it, so if you’re expecting high demand for the remote control come the big event, rest assured you still have time to get ready.

Toshiba’s RL953B, mind you, is far from a mere ‘second set’, despite the attractive price.

Indeed, it’s an excellent choice for any room in the house. Its 32-inch screen is big enough for the lounge, but the edge LED backlight makes it so thin it will fit literally anywhere.

This is a narrow razor blade of a TV, with style and grace for any surface. And wherever you put it, the wifi internet connectivity means it will have access to online services, including BBC iPlayer, and streaming media.

Plus with Freeview HD built-in you’ll be spoilt for channel choice.

All of this is well and good, but when it comes to sporting events what’s most important is the picture quality, not the external appearance.

You don’t want to miss a critical moment because of splodgy rendering or motion blur. Fortunately, that’s exactly what has rightly garnered the Toshiba 32RL953B awards all around the world.

Its black levels in particular are impressive for a mid-priced set, dark and inky without smudging any detail in shadowy areas. It doesn’t sacrifice tonal accuracy or rich, well saturated colours.

It outshines sets costing twice as much, especially when playing back HD content from a reliable source.

A brilliant TV, with a great price. Ideal for the summer of sport. Buy it now at Tesco direct.

Verdict

Well designed, keenly priced and with excellent colour quality. One of the best mid-priced sets around.
