Whether enjoyed via a Smart TV, media streamer, laptop, tablet or games console, on-demand TV is an increasingly popular way to watch the latest movies and must-see telly you love when you want.

In fact, a recent House of Lords report stated that internet TV will eclipse even digital terrestrial TV as the dominant way to enjoy video at home within a few years.

Video on Demand (VoD) services like Netflix and Lovefilm Instant have been around for a while, but alongside these a new crop of pay-per-view services are giving consumers the benefits of VoD without the hassle of being tied into a monthly subscription.

Of these, Which? pitted Apple TV, blinkbox, Sony Entertainment Network, Acetrax and Knowhow Movies against one another, scoring them on a range of criteria including ease of browsing, retrieving and viewing content, picture and sound quality as well as the quality of their film and TV collections.

Overall Apple TV got the highest average score at 79%, and coming a close second was blinkbox, which scored 68%. Blinkbox was rated highest in the test for new releases, scoring five out of five for both its film and TV collections. Elsewhere, Sony Entertainment Network impressed the reviewers with the quality of its sound and video.
