The good old-fashioned washing line is such a useful piece of equipment, unless, of course it's pouring with rain outside. Fortunately, there's no need to constantly rely on the weather because tumble dryers are a fast and easy way to dry clothes without having to hang them out for hours on end.
Tumble dryers use large drums so hot air can easily circulate around your clothes, helping to quickly dry them and reducing creasing. Lets take a look at what you need in a new tumble dryer.
Types of tumble dryer:
Vented
The advantage of a vented dryer is that the hot and damp air from your laundry is removed through a flexible hose that takes it outside. It can be permanently vented through an outside wall using a vented kit, which is usually included with the dryer, or through a flexible venting hose that can be temporarily hung out of a window when the dryer is in use.
Condenser
Condenser tumble dryers need no venting because the steam created in the drying process is condensed into water, which is collected in a tank. A light indicates when the tank is full and needs emptying. The main advantage of owning a condenser dryer is that you're able to conveniently place it almost anywhere, as no external venting is needed, giving you maximum flexibility.
Key features to look for:
Energy efficiency
Tumble dryers are rated on a scale of ‘A’ to ‘G’ according to their energy efficiency. ‘A’ rated appliances are the most efficient and are therefore cheaper to run and better for the environment, while ‘G’ rated appliances are the least efficient.
Capacity
This will indicate the maximum load in kilograms the tumble dryer is capable of handling. This will range from 3kg up to 8kg for larger models.
Noise levels
Tumble dryer noise levels are measured in decibels (dB). The lower the dB, the quieter the appliance will be. Levels vary from 55dB, similar to someone talking, to 72dB, similar to a vacuum cleaner.
