How is a printer connected to a computer?

Most printers today are connected to computers via a USB cable but this isn’t included in the box so remember to buy one if you don’t already have one at home!

However some Inkjets include an older Parallel port connection to allow connection via a separate lead to a Parallel port on a computer. If you want to buy a printer to connect to an existing device, it is important to know that both the computer and the printer are equipped with the same type of connector.

If you are looking for the freedom of putting your printer anywhere in the house and connecting to it wirelessly then look out for the ‘Wi-Fi’ symbol. Similarly look out for ‘Bluetooth’ as a handy way of connecting a mobile camera phone to a printer in order to print pictures directly from a phone. Ethernet is another standard in some printers, especially those aimed at business use; enabling easy printer connection to a whole network.
